Reactor Operations Lead

Summary:

The Natura Resources team is seeking a highly experienced Reactor Operations Lead to guide a multi-disciplinary team in developing and maintaining operational procedures and operator training materials for our liquid-fueled molten salt reactor technology. This role will drive operational excellence, ensure nuclear safety, and foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and regulatory compliance, aligning with Natura's mission to advance cutting-edge reactor technology.Depending on the candidate's background, they will also contribute significantly to either the engineering and design of the MSR-1 and MSR-100 systems as part of the engineering team or the development of license applications for these systems as part of the licensing team, while dedicating the majority of their efforts to reactor operations and related responsibilities.

Description:

The Reactor Operations Lead will oversee all aspects of reactor operations, including the development, implementation, and maintenance of operational procedures and comprehensive operator training programs. This individual will lead internal teams and coordinate with external contractors to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient reactor operations.Based on their expertise, the candidate will also play a key role in either the engineering team, contributing to the design and development of the MSR-1 and MSR-100 systems, or the licensing team, focusing on the preparation and submission of license applications for these systems. This role requires strategic vision, exceptional leadership, and a commitment to fostering a safety-conscious work environment. The Reactor Operations Lead will report to either the Chief Engineer or Director of Licensing, and play a pivotal role in supporting Natura's mission to deliver innovative nuclear solutions.

Note: remote employment is a possibility, but in-person presence is preferred.

Basic Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of operational procedures for Natura's molten salt reactor systems, ensuring compliance with nuclear regulatory standards.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of operator training materials, ensuring all personnel are equipped with the knowledge and skills required for safe and efficient reactor operations.
  • Direct a multi-disciplinary team of internal resources and external contractors, fostering collaboration, accountability, and professional development.
  • Establish strategic goals for reactor operations, utilizing performance metrics to monitor progress and ensure alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Contribute significantly to either:
  • The engineering and design of the MSR-1 and MSR-100 systems as a member of the engineering team, leveraging technical expertise to enhance reactor design and performance, or
  • The development of license applications for the MSR-1 and MSR-100 systems as a member of the licensing team, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and facilitating successful licensing processes.
  • Coordinate with engineering and fabrication partners to enhance the plant design and review technical documents, including procedures, training materials, and system specifications.
  • Develop and monitor annual budgets for reactor operations, ensuring cost-effective and sustainable execution of corporate goals.
  • Promote a safety-conscious work environment, ensuring compliance with company, site, and regulatory safety policies.
  • Mentor and develop staff, building technical and leadership capabilities for succession planning and operational excellence.
  • Represent Natura Resources in industry organizations and external communications, maintaining expert-level knowledge of nuclear operations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of reactor operations.
  • Oversee site security activities and emergency preparedness related to reactor operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field.
  • Preferred 10 years of engineering experience with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Preferred 3 to 5 years of nuclear reactor operating experience.
  • Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and managing external contractors.
  • Strong knowledge of nuclear regulatory standards, operational procedures, and training program development.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent the organization in internal and external settings.
  • Demonstrated leadership in fostering a safety-conscious work environment and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Strong project management skills, with experience developing schedules, scopes, and budgets.
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to travel, including moderate overnight travel as required.

Physical Requirements

  • Work is primarily performed in an office environment, requiring the ability to sit or stand for extended periods.

  • Ability to work extended hours on occasion to meet project deadlines.
  • Moderate travel, including overnight stays, is likely to various locations.
