SUMMARY/SCOPE:
The Writing Center tutor provides individual supportto students in the writing process. The tutor will offer support and guidanceto students through the writing process, which includes brainstorming, drafting,revising, and editing. Tutoring is a"student-centered" activity, so the emphasis and content of each tutoringsession is determined by the student's needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide writing-specific support to students through either individual appointments;
Facilitate active learning;
Provide guidance and direction to tutees;
Refer tutees to appropriate college offices, departments or professionals, when necessary;
Maintain confidentiality of student performance;
Complete all required tutor training as a condition of employment;
Complete all required payroll paperwork required prior to the start of hire date;
Maintain accurate and regular records of tutoring sessions within Accudemia data management system;
Complete timecard entry in Self-Service according to the Student Payroll Calendar;
Complete and/or participate in regularevaluations.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
At least one full year of post-high school, college-level work.
Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
Course grade of B+ or higher for any HSU courses you plan to tutor (with faculty recommendation)
Attend mandatory tutor training to complete hours required towards tutor certification. (Tutor training is scheduled throughout the first and second semester of tutoring.)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to sit for extended periods of time; mustbe able to access and read student's documents; must be able to respond inwriting to the student.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Must maintain cumulative GPA of 3.0.
