Catholic Religious Education Coordinator

Description:

The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:

1. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES. The coordinator shall provide all personnel, equipment, tools, supervision, and other items and services necessary to function as Catholic Religious Education (RE) Coordinator at the Dyess Chapel, Dyess Air Force Base, Texas. The Catholic Religious Education Coordinator will work with Catholic Priest to support Catholic activities for the Dyess Chapel. All work by the coordinator shall be performed in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, standards, instructions and commercial practices.

1.1 Qualifications.

1.1.1 Be a certified catechist (knowledge of the Catholic faith) of the San Angelo Diocese (or another diocese) or have at least 3-5 years teaching experience in Catholic Religious Education or at least two years of experience as an RE Coordinator.

1.1.2 Be able to work within the pluralistic environment of the Air Force.

1.1.3 Be able to maintain professional relationships with teachers/assistants, students, chapel staff, and public school staff.

1.1.4 The coordinator shall possess computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and Power Point.

1.1.5 Undergo a government background investigation (at government expense) in accordance with Department of Defense Instruction.

1.1.6 Undergo a successful background criminal history check at local (base), state, and national levels, including an Installation Records Check (IRC), a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR), and a National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI). Coordinators may be hired pending successful completion of background checks at all levels.

1.2 Duties.

1.2.1 Meets with the Catholic Priest, as the resource person, advisor, and budgeter of the Catholic Religious Education program.

1.2.2 Meets weekly with Catholic Priest to review overall programs and goals for preschool, elementary, junior high and adult religious education (adult RE may be led by the Priest; that guidance will be made by the current Priest overseeing the programs).

1.2.3 Attendance is required at monthly Catholic Parish Advisory Council meetings. Maintain the Office Hours as identified in paragraph 2.1.1 of this Performance Work Statement (PWS). The coordinator shall work approximately 13 hours per week. Coordinate with the Catholic Priest in regards to flexibility with work hours to allow attendance of meetings and/or events ensuring the 13 hour per week is not exceeded.

1.2.4 Organize and schedule the bible study program and youth ministry (with the guidance/advisement of the Priest).

1.2.5 Implements parish Sacramental programs under guidance of the Catholic Priest, including date of reception, times, length of classes, and parent-teacher sessions. Is responsible for parent classes.

1.2.6 Makes calendar of RE activities with parish master calendar, schedules and informs the parish coordinator of needed publicized events or programs.

1.2.7 The Coordinator shall, with the guidance of the Catholic Priest, prepare the Religious Education Program annual budget and calendar of events as well as facility and purchase requests for programs and materials. Submit fund request IAW AFI 52-105, Chaplain Corps Resourcing.

1.2.8 The Coordinator shall, serve as a member of the Chapel Corps Financial Working Group (CCFWG), to present the Religious Education program plan (annual budget and calendar of events). The CCFWG meets annually and semi-annually to review the status of the budget.

1.2.9 Conducts regular meetings for consultation, support, and training of teachers and assistants at all levels. Submits agenda to Catholic Priest prior to meetings for approval.

1.2.10 If resources are available the Coordinator coordinates, plans, organizes, staffs, and implements annual summer vacation chapel school program with the guidance of the Wing Chaplain and/or Catholic Priest (the option is available to provide a similar program instead if resources are limited). Coordinator may also coordinate with the Protestant RE Coordinator/RE Chaplain, if an ecumenical program is planned for the calendar year.

1.2.11 Recruit volunteers and provides necessary resources such as videos, CDs, etc. available to teachers and/or assistants.

1.2.12 Implement registration policies and procedures as directed by the Catholic Priest.

1.2.13 Make roster of teachers and assistants as well as students to classes and room numbers.

1.2.14 Send email to facility manager for the use of facilities; sanctuary, classrooms, and annex, by completing the proper Chaplain Corps forms.

1.2.15 Organizes special activities between teachers and assistants and classes, i.e. All Saints celebrations, Christmas, Easter events.

1.2.16 Is responsible for maintaining weekly records of attendance for students, teachers, and assistants and of turning in information to Catholic Priest on a weekly basis.

1.2.17 Is responsible for opening and securing all educational areas as well as materials and equipment.

1.2.18 With guidance from Catholic Priest, places request for necessary textbooks and supplies for teachers and students used for programming.

1.2.19 Distributes to teaching staff information regarding supplementary, audio-visual and multimedia equipment.

1.2.20 Assigns specific duties to teaching staff as directed by the Catholic Priest.

1.2.21 Make recommendations to the Catholic Priest for teachers to obtain catechist information and certification through local diocese.

1.2.22 Monitors the instructional program in order to assure that basic principles are being taught according to current catechetical guidelines.

1.2.23 Submits bulletin announcements to Catholic Pastoral Activities Coordinator, if applicable or designated representative, by Wednesday of week prior to desired publication, (i.e. Bulletins are printed on Wed. prior to that Sunday, bulletin announcements must be completed 11 days prior to the intended Sunday's bulletin).

1.2.24 Attends and schedules meetings for teachers and assistants, and pastoral council if needed.

1.2.25 Attends diocesan meetings, in-service training, and special functions for religious education and enrichment and briefs the Catholic Priest.

1.2.26 Attends faith group required RE training, events and/or programs upon approval from Catholic Priest and Contracting Officer and dependent on availability of appropriated budget, IAW, AFI 52-105, Chaplain Corps Resourcing.

1.2.27 The Coordinator shall read and apply Air Force Policy Directive 52-1, Air Force Instructions 52-101, 102, 105 and local Operating Instructions (OI) instituted by 7th Bomb Wing, Chaplain Corps (7th BW/HC).

1.2.30 Arrange for a fully qualified substitute to provide required services in the absence of the Coordinator. The Catholic Priest in coordination with the Wing Chaplain must approve absences and substitutes in advance.

2.1 Hours of Operation.

2.1.1 Standard Duty Hours. The coordinator shall perform the services required under this contract during the hours listed below unless otherwise coordinated through the Contracting Officer. Scheduled times may vary dependent upon mission requirements. The coordinator shall work 13 hours per week.
