Job Title: UPS Technician - Data Center Operations
What this job involves: As a UPS Technician at JLL, you will be responsible for maintaining and servicing uninterruptible power supply systems that provide critical backup power protection for data center operations. You'll work with large-scale UPS systems, battery banks, static transfer switches, and power distribution equipment that ensure continuous power delivery to mission-critical IT infrastructure. This specialized role requires expertise in power electronics and the ability to maintain systems that cannot afford any downtime in a 24/7 data center environment.
Your day-to-day tasks will include:
• Maintain and service large-scale UPS systems including online double-conversion, rotary, and modular UPS configurations
• Perform comprehensive preventive maintenance on battery systems including VRLA, lithium-ion, and wet cell battery banks
• Monitor and test static transfer switches, bypass switches, and automatic transfer switches for proper operation
• Troubleshoot UPS system faults using oscilloscopes, power quality analyzers, and specialized diagnostic equipment
• Execute planned maintenance activities including battery discharge tests, UPS load bank testing, and system transfers
• Respond to critical UPS alarms and power quality issues with immediate technical intervention
• Maintain detailed records of UPS performance data, battery test results, and maintenance activities
• Support UPS system upgrades, capacity expansions, and battery replacement projects
• Ensure compliance with electrical codes, UPS manufacturer specifications, and data center operational procedures
Desired experience and technical skills:
Requirements:
• Minimum 5 years of experience with commercial/industrial UPS systems
• Strong electrical background with knowledge of AC/DC power systems and power electronics
• Experience with large-capacity UPS systems (100kVA to 2MW+) from major manufacturers
• Knowledge of battery systems, charging methods, and battery testing procedures
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, UPS control logic, and technical documentation
• Proficiency with electrical test equipment including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power analyzers
• Understanding of power quality issues, harmonics, and electrical distribution systems
• Physical ability to work with high-voltage equipment and lift up to 50 lbs
• Availability for on-call emergency response and flexible scheduling
Preferred:
• Data center or mission-critical facility experience
• Experience with Schneider Electric, Eaton, Vertiv, or ABB UPS systems
• Knowledge of lithium-ion battery technology and battery management systems
• Electrical license or power systems certification
• Experience with building automation systems and UPS monitoring platforms
• Associate degree in Electrical Technology or Power Systems Engineering
• Manufacturer-specific UPS training certifications (APC, Liebert, etc.)
