Job Title: Director of Accessibility Services
Oversees and manages the college's compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Consent Decree to ensure proper services and related equipment are delivered and/or provided for students. Serves as the 504 Coordinator for students.
Responsibilities
Develops and implements policies and procedures to support students with disabilities in compliance with the ADA, its amendments, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
Interprets disability documentation and develops accommodation plans and recommendations for students with disabilities.
Provides strategic direction and leadership to the Center for Accessibility (CFA) department.
In collaboration with ITS and Purchasing, reviews and approves the selection and purchase of all adaptive technology, software, materials, and equipment.
Leads and supervises professional staff to ensure effective delivery of services and resources.
Develops and facilitates faculty/staff professional development programs related to the needs of students with disabilities.
Responds to inquiries and provides information related to students with disabilities and CFA services on campus and in the community.
Oversees the development and maintenance of records for caseload and CFA department.
Consults with students to establish technology needs and assists in the use of technology.
Evaluates and projects adaptive technology needs based on new developments in the field.
Conducts research on access issues, recommends improvements, and updates compliance protocols.
Develops and implements procedures, policies, and practices to ensure students receive appropriate accommodations, services, and support.
Recommends hiring, schedules, supervises, and evaluates notetakers and ASL interpreters.
Maintains databases and provides statistical information on the disabled student population.
Monitors CFA budget and submits reports on the area in a timely manner.
Supervises the monitoring of website and material accessibility.
Prepares reports and proposals as required.
Researches grants and external funding opportunities to support CFA initiatives.
Participates in professional development related to services for students with disabilities.
Provides expertise to colleagues for ADA compliance across the institution.
Assists with procurement decisions for academic materials and oversees remediation to meet compliance guidelines.
Oversees design of adaptive equipment areas and provides academic advising as needed.
Serves on college committees and performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Special Education, Higher Education Administration/Leadership, or related field.
3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in Higher Education, with experience working with students with disabilities and supervisory experience.
Experience with Ellucian Colleague management information systems preferred.
Skills and Competencies
Knowledge of ADA, amendments, and Section 504.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Sensitivity to the needs of students with disabilities from diverse backgrounds.
Working knowledge of assistive hardware and software options.
Terms of Employment
Flexible scheduling required, including evenings and weekends, at any Atlantic Cape location.
