Director of Student Accounts

Description:

Responsible for maintaining student accounts to include reviewing accounts receivable, oversee student billing, monitoring and contacting students with outstanding balances, preparing student collections, receipting payments, financial literacy, and providing great customer service through both oral and written communications.

Major/Essential Duties of the Job:

  • Process billing statements for current and past due student accounts.
  • Manage the student database workflows and data related to student accounts and billing.
  • Process the invoicing of student related charges submitted by other departments.
  • Manage all student related third-party invoicing.
  • Explain financial information to students and parents.
  • Manage the University's collections strategy and interface with third party collection agencies.
  • Manage the University's contract payment center, Nelnet.
  • Discuss and present billing processes at student orientation and registration.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical problems and work with IT to resolve issues.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts for accuracy to support year-end audit.
  • Produce student billing aging and collections reports.
  • Maintain Student Accounts budget.
  • Coordinate with third party vendors on collection of student accounts.
  • Hire, supervise, train, and evaluate the Assistant Director for Student Accounts.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Enrollment and Interim COO .


Occasional Duties:
  • Other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Interim COO
  • Awareness of Title IV refund calculations on withdrawing student and 1098T procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • 2-3 years related experience with a basic understanding of accounting processes.
Other Skills/Knowledge Required:
  • Requires strong initiative and ability to consistently apply dependable judgment in assuring compliance with Federal laws and University policies governing the confidential financial information of students.
  • Maintain professionalism, proficiency and composure, while conducting multiple complex assignments in an environment that is fast paced, challenging and at times can be stressful.
  • Mentor and train staff to ensure excellent customer service is given to internal and external customers.
  • Requires skillful knowledge of the use of Microsoft Office Suite programs.
  • Requires strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication as well as the ability to solve problems.
Minimum Required Education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a university setting.
Physical Demands

Willingness to work flexible and extended schedule including evenings and infrequent weekends when necessary.
